Dignified Labor, Dignified Lives

September 7, 2020

Labor Day weekend is here, and with it block parties, barbecues and, of course, sales. But it means even more to us at Savhera.

Labor Day became a federal holiday in 1894 to celebrate American workers’ contributions and achievements.

But it was birthed out of protest. In the late 19th century working conditions were dangerous and dehumanizing. Adults and children often worked twelve-hour-days, seven days a week in unsafe, traumatizing conditions.

Unfortunately, millions of men, women, and children all over the world still face dehumanizing conditions––far too often conditions they were trafficked into through force, fraud, or coercion.

Savhera exists as both a protest against and a response to this reality. Our company creates a dignified work environment for survivors of human trafficking. And because healing from trauma is a lifelong process, our work environment is trauma-informed, supportive, and uplifting for every team member.

What a Trauma-Informed Workplace Is…and Isn’t

A trauma-informed workplace is an environment that takes into consideration the emotional and psychological wellbeing of all employees. Research shows that a trauma-informed organizational culture is built upon the five principles of safety, choice, collaboration, trustworthiness, and empowerment.

A trauma-informed workplace does not require people to continually retell their story, does not treat them as mere numbers or labels, does not violate trust, and does things “with,” not “for.”

How Savhera Cultivates a Trauma-Informed Workplace

We are dedicated to employing and empowering survivors of sexual exploitation. We value a workplace that is supportive, encourages growth, and helps our employees succeed in all aspects of their lives.

Every purchase of Savhera products you make directly contributes to this workplace and combats human trafficking by creating dignified employment.

Will you help us create “a new beginning in every bottle” this Labor Day?
