DIY Deodorant with Essential Oils

May 28, 2021

Affordable & Toxin-Free!

Many mainstream deodorants contain chemicals that are toxic and even linked to serious health issues. All-natural deodorants, on the other hand, are often expensive. Thankfully, it’s easy and affordable to make your own DIY deodorant with essential oils.

Why Make Your Own Deodorant?

Many store-bought deodorants and antiperspirants contain toxins that some studies link to cancer, Alzheimer’s disease, and hormonal imbalance. Making your own is a great way to avoid these toxins while also reducing waste. You can store your homemade deodorant in an up-cycled or recycled container, and use ingredients from trusted sources. If you’re looking for an affordable, customizable deodorant that better reflects your health goals and lifestyle choices, why not try making your own?

How to Make Your Own Deodorant

It only takes a few minutes!

Supplies:

  • air-tight glass jar, tin, or empty deodorant container

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 cup baking soda (you can use less when starting out if it irritates you)- naturally deodorizes
  • 1/2 cup arrowroot powder or cornstarch– helps absorb moisture
  • 5 tbs unrefined organic coconut oil– moisturizes and antimicrobial
  • 20 drops of essential oil naturally deodorizes and nourishes skin!

INSTRUCTIONS

  • Mix baking soda and cornstarch together.
  • Next add the coconut oil and essential oils. Mix well.
  • Pour into a clean air-tight jar (Homemade deodorant will last 3-6 months in an airtight container.)
  • Use a popsicle stick to get the deodorant out of the container and transfer to your finger.

Consistency: The consistency changes depending on the temperature. In cold climates, it can be pretty hard to get out. If that’s the case for you, I recommend storing it by the shower and allowing the steam to warm it before applying.
