DIY Essential Oil Sachet for Bath and Shower

DIY essential oil sachets with Epsom salts (and dried or fresh botanicals if you want!) look cute in your bathroom and help you get the benefits of aromatherapy without an electric diffuser. Using aromatherapy during a bath or shower can help you relax, heal from issues such as headaches and congestion, and practice luxurious self-care.

These essential oil sachets (sometimes called “aromatherapy bags”) also make adorable gifts! And the bags and Epsom salts will be reusable once you’re done with your aromatherapy sachet.

Here’s what you’ll need:

  • Small cotton, muslin, or mesh sachet bags
  • Epsom salts
  • Your favorite essential oils for aromatherapy (see below for suggestions)
  • Optional: Dried rose petals or other flowers, fresh eucalyptus, or dried lavender buds.

Directions:

Fill a tiny cotton pouch or mesh sachet 3/4 of the way with Epsom salts. Add 5-10 drops of essential oils. Add the dried or fresh botanicals if using. Tie the bag closed. Hang on your shower head or bathtub faucet, away from the water stream.

The steam from a hot bath or shower will gently and slowly release the aromas of the essential oils. The pouch should stay aromatic for a few weeks. After that, just pour the Epsom salts out into a nice bath and soak them up! These essential oil sachets make the cutest gifts and party or wedding favors. They are also a fun project for kids to learn about aromatherapy.

What to upcycle? This project is a great way to reuse those little cloth bags that jewelry and skincare products sometimes come in. You can even use your Savhera drawstring bags if you’re not using them to store your oils!
