Can You Use Essential Oils For Your Dog's Problems?
While essential oils help alleviate certain ailments that pain us humans, they prove more tricky for your dogs. What is good for us is not always good for them. With this in mind, it is essential to note that topically applied essential oils are rarely safe on dogs and should be avoided! Due to differing physiological makeup, the essential oils absorb differently on dogs than humans. In fact, they can actually lead to irritation and discomfort. Furthermore, since your dogs cannot verbally communicate, you may not even realize the pain an essential oil causes them.
Now, there are many products on the market targeted towards dogs that do include essential oils. While these products most likely dilute the essential oils with other carrier oils, it is always better to check with your veterinarian first. Not only can these products be unsuited for your particular pup, but many essential oils, if ingested, are poisonous to dogs. With this in mind, you must store your essential oils where your dog cannot get to them. Similarly, be mindful that when you use essential oils on yourself, your dog has limited interaction with them. Again, if you are nervous about the essential oils you use within your home and their impact on your dog, talk to your vet.
As long as you remain smart and vigilant when it comes to your essential oil use, there is no reason why you can't reap the benefits of essential oils while also keeping your pup safe!!
